23. There were several examples where you had to choose whether recovery by the Last Known Good Configuration, Emergency Repair Disk or using the VGA choice on the boot menu was the proper solution. Clues: If you are logged on and have a problem once into NT (mouse doesn’t work, keyboard locks up, screen turned black by weird desktop choices), the last known good is probably corrupt since it was written to once you successfully logged on. It can’t be used again for recovery until a correct boot up occurs and the registry is changed to new corrected settings or the ERD is used to return to old settings. That would leave you with using the VGA choice if the problem is display related (the user installed the wrong display driver) or the ERD for any other problem. Also running WINNT.EXE might be a solution if no other viable one is listed as an answer. Remember running WINNT is used to start the repair process with the ERD and striking R at the repair option menu area.
